Halloween Art/Writing

This week we have been writing Halloween stories. We got to roll a dice to tell us what our story would be about. We rolled the dice 4 times and each roll told us our character, time, place and problem that we had to integrate into our writing. We had some very spooky stories with some great scary language.

The art work was done in two parts: the first being the painting of the sky. We started with a white circle for the moon and then added either purple or blue paint each ring around the moon, making it darker each time. For the second stage of the artwork we cut out a house silhouette and stuck them onto our painted sky background. Some students added some birds, trees and tombstones to add to the effect of the Haunted House!

I think they look very effective and am very proud of the work the students put in.

Feel free to come in and see them!

Friday 20th October

Friday was a very busy day for Room 7. We had sports activator with Mitch and a group challenge to complete in the afternoon.

In our Sports Activator session Mitch was teaching us lots of cricket skills. It was a fun session on a beautiful Lawrence day. We did a lot of activities and we were able to practice our bowling, catching, throwing, running between the wickets and fielding.

In the afternoon we were put into teams of 3 and given 20 sheets of newspaper and 1 metre of masking tape. Our challenge was to build a structure that was 1 metre high and could stand on its own (without anyone holding or touching it). This was a great team building activity and made each group communicate and problem solve.

Once groups completed that activity they had to make a shelter that all team members could fit under. This was a more challenging task and pushed a lot of people to the edge, BUT...they all persevered and worked well as a team.

Daffodils Trip

Last Friday we visited the daffodils at Wetherston's. It has been re-opened by a group of committed community members. When we arrived we went to the daffodil field. After that we went to the waterfall which was lovely. When we got back from the waterfall we found the old Hart homestead where the Hart family lived. Some students then walked up a track to find the wardrobe only to find it wasn't there any longer. It was a beautiful day and we really enjoyed going up to the daffodils.

Sports Activator - Touch

On Friday 15th September we had our lesson Sports Activator session with Greer. In this session we were practicing our touch skills to get us ready for the upcoming season. We learnt the technique for passing from both sides. We also did a drill that worked on our concentration skills. This was quite a fun drill where we faced our partner with the balled place on the ground between us. Then Greer would call out a part of the body and we had to touch that part of our body, if Greer called out "ball" we would dive towards the ball to try and get it before our partner. We finished of the session with several games of mini touch. We were put in teams and Greer would call out a number. That number of people had to play a mini game of touch.

Elections 2017!

Today Room 7 started their inquiry into the Elections. We were put into groups and asked to find out about one of the main political parties in NZ.

Miss Taylor created a collaborative Google Slide and in our groups we added our research to our specific slide.

It is great to be able to all add our information onto the same document.

Little Gardens.....

Room 7 has been challenging Room 1 to grow their Little Gardens. I think we might have this one in the bag....every little plant has sprouted with the exception of Mint, we are not sure why Mint decided to not pop up....but we watch it every day to see if we can get 100% success. We are going to replant these little seedlings into our School Garden as soon as the weather warms up and they are hardy enough.

Dance Night

Dance Night was a huge hit!!!

The class loved tye-dying their own shirts to wear. Our dance needed groups to be identified and what better way to do that that dye our shirts the same colours for each group member!

Our dance was choreographed mainly by three students; Josie, Lanie and Isla. You girls did an amazing job and I am so proud of you!!!
